Sound familiar?
You show up for work, your family, and your responsibilities. From the outside, it looks like you're handling it. But inside, you may feel stuck in patterns you can't explain, short-tempered with people you love, numb or checked out even though life looks good on paper, or burned out from carrying everything.

Many men wait until something breaks before reaching out. You don't have to. I work with professionals, leaders, fathers, and partners who want to feel more grounded, connected, and in control of their lives.

I wrote my doctoral dissertation on healthy masculinity, and helping men make lasting change is a core part of my practice.

Men I often work with. The men I work with are usually doing fine on paper and tired of it. Some are fathers of young kids who feel like they're running on empty. Some are professionals and leaders who carry a lot and talk to no one about it. Some come after a divorce, a loss, or a career change. And some come because a partner, a friend, or a doctor suggested it, and they're not sure it's for them. That's a fine place to start.

How therapy with me works
Direct, not vague. No judgment, and no endless nodding. I'll tell you what I see and ask real questions.

Depth, not just coping tools. Psychodynamic therapy looks at why the same patterns keep showing up, often rooted in how you learned to handle pressure, emotion, and relationships. Understanding them is what makes lasting change possible.

Real. I take the work seriously without taking myself too seriously. Growth doesn't have to be grim.

What the first session is like. The first session is a regular-length session that combines getting to know you with the start of therapy. Before it, I send intake forms and we go over them on your free 15-minute consultation call, so you don't need to bring anything. We talk about what brought you in and what you'd like to be different. I ask about your history, your relationships, and how you've been handling things, and I tell you what I'm noticing. By the end you'll know whether this feels like the right fit.

Frequently asked questions
Why see a therapist who specializes in men?
Many men were taught to handle stress by pushing through, shutting down, or staying busy. Those strategies work until they don't. A therapist who understands those patterns can help you get to the real issue faster, without making you feel judged.

What is psychodynamic therapy, and how is it different from CBT?
CBT focuses mainly on changing specific thoughts and behaviors. Psychodynamic therapy looks deeper, at the long-standing patterns, emotions, and relationship dynamics behind them. The goal is lasting change, not just symptom management, and research supports its effectiveness for depression, anxiety, and relationship problems.

Do I have to be in crisis to start therapy?
No. Many of the men I work with are functioning well on the outside. They just know things could be better and want to understand why they keep getting stuck.

Do you offer therapy for men by telehealth?
Yes. I see clients in person at my Boulder office and by secure video anywhere in Colorado. I can also see therapy clients by secure video in other states that participate in PSYPACT, the interstate compact for telepsychology.

How much does therapy cost, and do you take insurance?
See our Fees page for current session rates. I'm in-network with Aetna for therapy and provide superbills for other insurance plans with out-of-network benefits.
