Limits of Confidentiality

In general, everything we discuss together is confidential. However, there are a few notable exceptions. I am legally and/or ethically required to disclose information if:

• You or someone else is at imminent risk of harm (For example, if you tell me that you are planning on attempting suicide, or that someone is abusing or neglecting a child).
  

• A child, dependent adult, or older adult is being neglected or abused
  

• I am required to by a court order or subpoena

This is not an exhaustive list, but it covers the most common situations when I would have to break confidentiality to protect you or someone else. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
