About Me

Helping You Make Lasting Change

You’ve built a life that works on paper. But under the surface, there may be stress you can’t shake, patterns you can’t quite change, or a sense that something important is missing. Therapy is about slowing down, looking deeper, and helping you make changes that last.

I specialize in depth-oriented psychodynamic therapy, which focuses on helping you understand and shift long-standing patterns, often ones you aren’t fully aware of in the moment. Together, we’ll explore the underlying dynamics shaping your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, so you can respond to life with greater clarity, freedom, authenticity, and intentionality.

Who I Work With

I work with people who are ready for more than short-term coping strategies.

One of my major areas of expertise is working with men who want to take a deep dive and figure out why some things aren't working in their lives. This isn't just a recent interest: I wrote my doctoral dissertation on healthy masculinity. Many of my patients are high-achieving people like you who were:

  • Stuck in patterns that feel hard to break

  • Struggling to balance success with stress, burnout, or disconnection

  • Navigating major life transitions or changes in identity

  • Looking to understand themselves more fully and live with greater intention

  • Exhausted with balancing kids and career

  • Feeling disconnected from their spouses or partners

Through therapy, my patients have:

  • Drawn clear boundaries and protected their own well-being

  • Reignited passion for their careers and life’s work

  • Broken free from anxiety and depression that once kept them stuck

  • Healed deeply from grief and long-standing emotional pain

  • Brought more joy and intention to their parenting

  • Rebuilt connection and intimacy with spouses and partners

  • Taken the wheel by transforming old patterns into intentional choices

This is the kind of transformation that can come from the in-depth, insight-driven work I do with my patients.

My Approach

Psychodynamic therapy goes beyond symptom management. It’s about identifying the deep, often long-standing influences behind your current challenges, whether they come from early life experiences, relational patterns, or internal expectations you’ve carried for years.

I aim to create a space that’s collaborative, reflective, and deeply attuned. The work we do is both insight-driven and practical, helping you connect the dots between past and present while making tangible changes in how you live and relate to others.

Why work with me

  • I bring deep clinical experience. I saw my first therapy patient in 2009. Since then, I've worked in rural hospitals, community clinics, research centers, and academic medicine. My most recent role before starting Redwood Psychology was as clinical faculty at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine. I’ve worked with hundreds of people from all walks of life, facing just about every psychological struggle you can imagine. In other words, you’re unlikely to shock me.

  • I believe in collaboration, not hierarchy. I’m trained in one of the most heavily-written-about approaches to therapy, but you’re the expert on your own life. I won’t pretend to have all the answers. What I will do is help you ask better questions and explore new ways of seeing yourself, your relationships, and the ways you do life.

  • We go at your pace. Some sessions are deep dives. Others are lighter or more exploratory. That’s up to you. Want to pause and regroup mid-process? Totally fine. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all; there's no manual or script that we have to follow. Instead, we’ll shape it around your needs and comfort level.

  • I take the work seriously without taking myself too seriously. I’m not a blank slate with a clipboard and a monotone "mm-hmm." I show up as a real person: thoughtful, grounded, and engaged. Therapy with me includes insight, yes, but also humor, connection, and moments of lightness. Growth doesn’t have to be grim.

  • The relationship is what makes therapy work. Research backs this up: the quality of the therapy relationship is the best predictor of success. That’s why I prioritize authenticity, trust, and collaboration from day one. If I’m not the right fit, I’ll connect you with my network of colleagues to help you find someone who is -- no ego, no hard feelings.

Experience & Training

I am a licensed psychologist with extensive clinical experience. My background includes:

  • Clinical Faculty Appointment – University of Colorado, Anschutz School of Medicine

  • Assistant Director – APA-accredited doctoral internship program (Salina Regional Health Center)

  • Extensive Supervision & Training Experience – From practicum students to postdoctoral fellows, helping the next generation of psychologists develop depth-oriented, clinically grounded skills

  • Specialized expertise in psychological assessment, including ADHD, autism, neuropsychological screening, and presurgical evaluations. I also have rare, highly-specialized training in performance-based personality assessment that allows me to give deeper, more thorough answers to diagnostic questions.

This combination of therapy and assessment work allows me to integrate a nuanced understanding of personality, history, and context into each patient's care.

A Bit More About Me

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, spent my early adulthood moving across the country and abroad, and eventually settled in the North Denver/Boulder area. To paraphrase John Muir, the mountains were calling, and I had to go.

I’m married to my wonderful wife, an art therapist who runs her own practice in Boulder, and we have three young children: an older son and boy-girl twins. In my free time, I collect hobbies, which at present include woodworking, 3D printing, martial arts, gaming, drums, guitar, and hiking/camping.
