A full adult ADHD evaluation with a psychologist in Colorado is often a private-pay service, and fees vary widely with what's included. Based on fees Colorado practices publish online (October 2026), an evaluation with a licensed psychologist in private practice typically costs about $2,400 to $3,500; university training clinics charge less but often have waitlists of several months. At my Boulder practice, an evaluation costs $2,500 and is usually completed in a single 4-hour visit, with a written report and a feedback session about two weeks later.

That's the short answer. The longer one is worth reading, because two evaluations with very different prices can look the same from the outside.

Why do prices differ so much?

"ADHD testing" can mean very different things. At one end is a short visit where a clinician just reviews your symptoms and history. At the other is a full evaluation that also looks at attention and executive functioning, mood, anxiety, and other conditions that can look like ADHD. The more that a visit includes, the more time it takes, and time is most of the cost.

What does a real ADHD evaluation include?

Best-practices for psychological assessments require bringing together several sources of information rather than relying on one test or one conversation:

  • A clinical interview about your history from childhood to now, and how symptoms affect your daily life

  • Input from someone who knows you well, such as a partner, parent, or close friend

  • Rating scales that compare your symptoms with people without ADHD

  • A check for other explanations, including medical ones and conditions like anxiety, depression, or a learning disability

  • Cognitive and academic testing, when it helps answer the question

My evaluations include all of those pieces that apply to you, plus testing of attention and executive functioning, and a written report with specific recommendations.

What are your options, and how do they differ?

Different kinds of providers fit different needs:

  • Psychologists in private practice, like me, typically offer a "full battery" (in other words, using multiple different psychological assessments and data gathering methods) diagnostic evaluation and a written report. Fees are usually private pay.

  • University training clinics are staffed by supervised trainees. They can cost less, and they often have waitlists.

  • Psychiatry practices and primary care can diagnose and prescribe medication. Visits are often shorter, they rarely if ever administer assessments, and a written report may be limited.

  • Online screeners can tell you whether it's worth getting evaluated, but a screener on its own is not a diagnosis.

None of these is wrong. The right one depends on whether you want a diagnosis, a detailed report, medication, or a first step.

How does insurance work?

Many psychological testing evaluations, like mine, are private pay. I don't bill insurance directly, but I can give you a document called a "superbill", which is like a receipt you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan, so it's worth calling your insurer first. I accept HSA and FSA cards, and 0% financing options are available.

What does it cost at Redwood Psychology?

An adult ADHD evaluation costs $2,500. That covers the interview, testing, scoring, a written report, and a feedback session.

The process is simple:

  1. A free 15-minute phone consultation, so you can ask questions and we can see whether an evaluation is a good fit.

  2. One testing day at my Boulder office, usually lasting about 4 hours.

  3. A feedback session about two weeks after testing, in person or by video, where we go through your results and written report together.
